Letter to the Editor:

Shooting makes La Quinta a war zone

Re: “Coots draw ire on the links,” Blake Herzog, Feb. 3.

I feel I am living in a war zone!

I live next door to a golf course community in La Quinta that has been given a permit to use lethal methods to cull the coots on their property.

I also live across the street from a farm that has been given a permit to use lethal methods to keep the birds from their crops.

The gunshots started in September. They start at 6:25 a.m. and they are shooting seven days a week! They are right next door! They echo! Sometimes the shooting goes on all day at random intervals, sometimes there is a quick succession of gunshots. There is never a break. For the past five months, that is more than 150 days I have endured gunfire seven days a week all day from one source or another.

As a home owner, I am allowed the right to quiet enjoyment of my home. I have been denied that right by the issuance of these permits.

So which is worse, coot poop or living in a war zone?
